Whatever
Will the reader from Manchester, New Hampshire, kindly step forward to be recognized as our 100,000th visit?
Hooray for us! Any auspicious remarks from co-bloggers or commenters? This shall be the official open thread to comment about our humble little blog, Stubborn Facts. You know, we've never had an "ego wall" block in one of the side columns, of quotes of other bloggers saying nice things about us. Say something nice about us, and maybe we'll start one!
Well, I can say is, Huzzah for us!
"In the world you will find tribulation, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world."
John 16:33
Thanks to all who helped get us here!
Since we went live on June 15, 2006, we've had exactly 1,600 published posts (counting the 1 post after this one so far today), and a whopping 7,850 published comments (counting this one). That's 3.75 posts and 18.4 comments per day.
This is all thanks to the tireless work and incredible research, analysis, and writing of Tully, Simon, Bobby, Rafique, Stubborn Jack, Fern, and, the last 2 weeks, Sean Aqui (ok, I helped out a bit here and there, too... ;-).
Our success is also due in no small part to our pride of commenters, who are too numerous to mention by name. Thanks to all of you for keeping us on our toes, for laughing with us, arguing with us, sharing with us your own thoughts and experiences. At least some of us view the front page posts as the chore we must perform so that we can get involved in a good debate in the comments.
And of course we'd have many fewer hits if it weren't for the other bloggers who have found us link-worthy from time to time. Tom Maguire at JustOneMinute, Patrick Frey of Patterico's Pontifications, Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit, several of the Volokh Conspirators, Ann Althouse, Annie Gottlieb at Ambivablog, Sippican Cottage, Michael van der Gali?n of The Moderate Voice and his new Van Der Gali?n Gazette, Michael Reynolds of Sideways Mencken, Michelle Malkin, The Anchoress, and others I am sadly not remembering at the moment. We certainly would be but a shadow of our current self without the jump start we got from our friends (and friendly adversaries) at Centerfield, where Tully, Simon, Bobby, and I first met.
Finally, special thanks to Rich Horton of The Iconic Midwest who has of late become a very good friend to Stubborn Facts.
Congratulations, boys. Oh,
Congratulations, boys.
Oh, and the odds are that any visitor from New Hampshire is a presidential candidate. I'm thinking McCain. He has lots of time on his hands.
hits on the mighty middle
I miss the "Mighty Middle", Reynolds. Ok? I even miss its antiquated but quaint format. The new one just isn't the same. Where else could we count on a moderate piece like "Nuking Mecca"?
Sorry about ignoring the merits of Stubborn Facts, guys. It's a great blog.
Yeah, I miss it, too, dude.
Yeah, I miss it, too, dude. But I have a six book series to finish. 3600 pages total, 3000 pages left in the next couple of years. Plus I'm going to want to write a few other books in there. So I have to mostly content myself with irritating these guys and a few others in between chapters.
You'll find this amusing: I am officially on the Rupert Murdoch payroll (HarperCollins). Bill O'Reilly, Homer Simpson and me. Of course they both earn a lot more.
You forgot John Edwards...
You forgot John Edwards, Michael. I guess technically he's not on the Murdoch payroll any more, but you never know when some more royalties will come in, right? ;-)
. . . you never know when
. . . you never know when some more royalties will come in. . .
Your lips to God's ears.
I appreciate the importance
I appreciate the importance of eating and paying bills- no argument from me on that score. Murdoch's payroll, aye? Awesome. I knew you were a closet rightist, living in the SOUTH and all (sorry, Pat).
I've decided that I miss the accessibility of your writing- sometimes keeping up with Simon's footnoting and legal research is exhausting. You never bothered with authority or facts- something I respected.
I'm glad...
I'm glad Tully and I aren't the only ones telling him that, kreiz... thanks! ;-)
I do occasionally write
I do occasionally write something carefully researched and well thought out: http://sidewaysmencken.blogspot.com/2007/08/jihad-care.html
Yeah... I may have said this
Yeah... I may have said this to Max recently, but I'm really making an effort to make my posts on legal topics a little more accessible - for example, my post last week on Are consciously tried to be a bit more accessible.
footnotes are good; standing is questionable
I shouldn't give you such a hard time- I'm a big fan of the footnote and legal philosophy. But sometimes, exploring the outer reaches of the standing doctrine challenges my interest limits. :(
That's what I'm here for..
if its clear to me, then it is accessible...LOL
Perhaps you could do what Foreign Affairs does and summarize your legal posts in a paragraph on top (use different and smaller typeface to give it that summation feel).
Kinda like Amy Proctor's
Kinda like Amy Proctor's bottom line up front feature?
You're not fooling me,
You're not fooling me, Michael. I happen to know they pay off Homer in beer and doughnuts. A lot of beer and doughnuts, to be sure, but still...
I wish they'd pay off egO'Reilly in thorazine, but I solve that by ignoring him. ;-)
Where's the donation box?
Congrats again. If you feature more swealtering shots you'll break 200,000 in record time. (we want exclusives from that jogging path)
You've all been for more educational than CNN or Fox, thanks.....

Best idea in the comments ever (re donation box). ;) We'll think about that.

Congrats all. Keep up the great work.
What is there to be said that hasn't been said already?
Congrats guys. Lets shoot for visitor number 1 million by October 1st.

Talk about lowering
Talk about lowering expectations.... ;)

Great Blog
Thanks for enlightening and entertaining. Stubborn Facts is in my everyday list. Congratulations.
Congratulations!! :)
Congrats on the milestone! :)
Happy blogging.
