The new translation, II

Submitted by Simon on Thu, 04/29/2010 - 11:47am

For better or worse, the new translation of the Roman Missal is a done deal. I've already said my piece on this: I think for better, by and large.

Just something to consider: When the novus ordo commenced at the beginning of Advent 1969, that change—far-reaching and transformative, unlike the tinkering at issue here—was announced on April 3 1969. See Ap. Con. Missale Romanum (Paul VI, 1969). That was absurd, and such haste can't help but produce ill effects. A longer lead time is going to happen here; Advent 2011 is the rumored date I've heard. Nevertheless, we must pray for those on the front line of implementation: our Bishops, Priests, and above all, catechists.
