...of 2008. Since Sydney, Australia has already been there, done that, I offer up some actual 2009 YouTubery by taking advantage of the International Date Line. (Not a real time warp...)
Here's wishing each and every one of our readers and posters a happy, safe, and prosperous 2009.
Happy New Year to all.
Happy New Year to all.
Despite the media's grim filters, there is plenty to count our blessing with. Perhaps we can come together and solve our problems next year.
Our solutions should not be superficial if real security and prosperity are to be reached. I know I have warned of many growing threats, but until the major powers (and their people) get their acts together, these threats will continue until new realities push aside the old.
So despite the year we just had, next year might make this year look good. If we keep that in mind, maybe next year might turn out to be a real step forward.
As I was saying...
...about trying to ram through massive spending before it becomes apparent that we are NOT in a financial Armageddon....
Democrats Are Concerned Over Stimulus Plan Delays
I take it as a good sign that the O-Team has already signalled it won't be steam-rolled by Congressional Democrats on this. Not that they can't come up with their own completely stupid and corrupt ways of spending hundreds of billions of dollars in the name of "stimulus," but the more the process is slowed down the better we will all likely be. Unless, of course, we're the ones who stand to profit from building a $2 million skateboard park in Michigan or $6 million to heat a swimming pool in Maui or $1.5 million to reduce prostitution in Dayton, all in the name of "stimulus."
Dayton?!?!
The complete wish list may be found HERE. It's a very partial list of what cities want (hundreds of cities made no request for list inclusion) and it still totals $73 billion. For a real eye-opener, look up what CDBG funding is supposed to be used for, and then check on what these cities want to use it for.
Funny Tully. I've been to
Funny Tully. I've been to Dayton.
I guess the stimulus plan and foreign policy dangers top the most important avoiding the pitfall list this next year. Let's see if Obama pulls a Clinton and sees that by fashioning something Republicans can swallow, he wins and gets the credit. And that would be consistent with pragmatic egoism.....
Raf, good cheer to you too.
???
How will reducing prostitution increase stimulation? ;-)
God bless the International Date Line...
Happy New Year crew, and my God continue to bless us in 2009. Stay safe, and drink responsibly.
Happy new year, gang. :)
Happy new year, gang. :)
Beggars at the gates....
Government aid could save U.S. newspapers, spark debate
Like the auto companies, newspapers have done this to themselves.
And who is next?
Steel workers want a bailout too.
And the buggy-whip guild.
And the buggy-whip guild. They too want a bailout.
Bee Farmers first...
Yep, stimulation and pitfalls
Direct talks with Hamas is exactly what many Liberals want Obama to declare. That is why Iran pushed Hamas to move now so they have two cards to play with Obama (the other being Hizb'Allah).
Ukraine stealing Russian gas?
Burris says he's going to march into the Senate...
The New Year with a bang....
Burris should march into the
Burris should march into the Senate. I'll leave it to Simon to dissect the hollowness of the Senate Dem's arguments, and simply note that the power they claim is the power to exclude anyone they don't like for pretty much any or all reasons, a rather expansive power that could be used by ANY Senate majority to exclude the other party in entirety from the body.
Why do they call it the "Democratic" Party again?
I actually know some bee keepers and buggy-whip makers. And more than one blacksmith.
Oh, it will be quite a scene.
Oh, it will be quite a scene. As I said, let's hope the Dems have more smarts outfoxing Ahmadinejad, Putin, Hugo, Hamas, the Taliban, Assad, Hizb'Allah and even AQ. From what I've seen of strategic thinking, we are up the creek without a paddle....LOL, do they need a bailout too?
Bee keepers need some help. I don't think most Americans understand the degree that bees keep the food growing.
Now buggy-whip makers need to take a seat behind Corning (glass), dupont (chemicals), boeing (aircraft), etc. You don't see Wal-Mart waiting in line, nor do you hear those Lefty chants of down with Wal-Mart. That's where all the broke people are going to have to shop.
Oh, and FreedomCall, a British telecom gets a cheer for their principled stand. Orwell is alive and well.
And just one more for Friday....Tully will like this as it shows the broader strokes (or strikes) of "climate change". Just 13,000 years ago?
Mars was hit so hard long ago it is clearly deformed and probably lost its atmosphere. Were it not for one toxic ingrediant, Martian soil is prime for organic life with frozen ice just below the soil line. Sad to hear that here on earth however, more than 52% of mammal species are threatened. And the threat isn't from global warming.
Who could resist...
...the straight line?
President-elect's name may emerge in Norman Hsu fraud trial
All together now..."If the Hsu fits...."
I have read some speculation
I have read some speculation that as Hamas makes the front page, some say the President's name will surface in relation to funds Obama and Trinity fowarded to groups now linked to funding Hamas. The indictments and convictions are far from over. I bet that is one reason Khalidi has kept a low profile. And of course there is that tape of Obama with Ayers at an event last year hailing Khalidi. An event with pro Hamas Israeli bashing. Won't that tape thrill Obama?
Yep, quite a bit more trouble than Clinton rode in with.
Friday's Dark Matters (on the open thread)
Friday's Dark Matters
intergalactic rings of dark matter
Chandra looks for dark matter
dark matter simulations
The idea has been around for some time, but only recently was this rather strange idea scientifically supported through tests that can be repeated by anyone capable of taking the required measurements.
Now, if dark matter doesn’t grab (or repulse) you, perhaps you hail from the absolute zero crowd. Funny things happen near absolute zero. The ultimate deconstruction of matter. And how would dark matter condensates behave?
Controlling near absolute temperatures, the Planck probe is set to measure our universe’s first light,
-Or in religious terms, when God said, “Let There Be Light.” According to scientific scripture, this happened some 18 billion years ago. The magnitude of difference between the Biblical and the Astronomical birth dates of the Universal Singularity is rather staggering.
And dark matter is a different matter entirely.
Black holes anyone?
Happy New Year, SF Crew!
(Guess whose internet is finally back up and running?)
This end-of-the-year festivity begs the eternal question: where and when is the First Annual Stubborn Facts meet-up?
Sorry, Theo. We were gonna
Sorry, Theo. We were gonna have it at Pat's place, but events got in the way. Then we were going to reschedule a bit closer to me, but there was a small water problem at the facilities this year.
So we're still kinda working on it....
Wow, I missed that post. Pat,
Wow, I missed that post. Pat, my sympathies and I hope things are getting back to normal. Well, you are buried in nature! Greenies would be jealous. Hope the New Year makes up for the last.
Tully, I hear pick manufacturers want a bailout too!
Tully, it all sounds nearly
Tully, it all sounds nearly apocalyptic. You just need to throw in a few fish falling from the sky, and it's all over. :)
We get those when the
We get those when the tornadoes pass over water...sometimes frogs, too. Downright Biercian. ;-)
Downright Biblical.
Downright Biblical.
And speaking of biblical.....
Some things do change
It amazes me that with terrorists dug into mosques, universities, public places; Israel has taken out much of Hamas leadership without more civilian death. I expect more of this kind of reporting. Imagine going into populated, heavily booby-trapped, fortified, mined areas with orders to keep civilian casualties at the lowest minimum. It is like walking into Grand Theft Auto with a monkey on your back.
And I bet Obama is glad Susan Rice isn't over at the UN dictating what is "acceptable and balanced". Perhaps, they are scripting their first move they will have to deliver in two weeks. Will Rice address Somalia? Will Rice understand what the Gaza outcome means for Iran and Syria? Will she explain to the world how all our present problems were created by GB? It seems our "problems" would love that political tactic to displace strategic thinking.
I hope Obama keeps reading those daily briefs.
Come flying frogs, please lead us to the Promised Land......
The UN at work again
UN tries to block carbon sequestering project
And by the way, 2008 was the same global mean temperature as the 20th century average. Last December was lower than normal.....
