Ben Smith over at Politico reports on a new Pew poll that finds that 23% of Democrats who don't like Obama think he is a Muslim. The poll also found that Democrats who don't like him hold less than tolerant views on race (i.e. they don't approve of interracial dating, etc).
It is often insinuated that the Republican party is full of old, rich, white, racist men. This is of course, patently ridiculous. I'm neither old, nor rich, nor racist, nor male. And I know plenty of Republicans just like me. That being said, perhaps the Democrats should clean their own house before they wag their finger at others. Where has the DNC been registering voters? David Duke's neighborhood? What kind of caveman is against interracial dating in 2008?! Although, as a GEICO customer, maybe I should be more respectful of cavemen. They probably aren't racist.
Poor persecuted cavemen :)
Actually, I think it's safe to say that unfortunately both parties have to a certain degree those amongst their ranks who are in fact racists. The illusion that the Democratic Party is somehow 100 percent racism free is exactly that. Neither party is full of racists, and despite substantive policy disagreements on certain issues with the GOP, I think it reduces us all to cast Republicans (or Democrats) as racists.

Yeah, and look how...
...maybe I should be more respectful of cavemen. They probably aren't racist.
Yeah, and look how that worked out for them....
Though there are those who maintain that they're really still around, as evidenced by the prevalence of subspecies homo lacertae cauponom and homo dissimulatus bureaucratum.
No caveman racists?
maybe I should be more respectful of cavemen. They probably aren't racist.
Ask a Neanderthal about Cro-Magnons and you'll get an earful, all right.
Although I guess that isn't literally race.
Nah, it's specieism.
Nah, it's speciesism.
10% Dems; 14% Republicans
Some folks need to seriously get a clue!!
("But I read it on the internet!")

The Progressive Party was not asked
The Pew poll did ask the Progressive Party, it asked the Democratic Party. Don't blame us for what the Democrats do, or say.
