Hewitt jumps the shark. Again.

Hugh Hewitt blames McCain. Gee, you don't think that perhaps it might have a little more to do with the ongoing bloodbath in Iraq coupled with an administration that doesn't seem to have a clue how to fix the situation, public revulsion at a Congress that has come to be seen as corrupt, lethargic, and wantonly carefree with spending, and the utter failure to advance a recognizably Republican legislative agenda in the last two years? No, it all has to do with that evil John McCain.

It's one thing to disagree with McCain, or to dislike him, or even to be actively hostile to it. I say this with no particular love for McCain myself: to blame him for last night? Get lost. That is the sort of nonsense that we need to nip in the bud if we're going to have an even halfway serious discussion about how to move forwards. Even if last night's loss of Senate seats can be blamed purely on the judicial issue - itself a massive stretch of the imagination - then the blame for that falls squarely at the feet of Bill Frist. After his contemptible behavior during the Harriet Miers fiasco, I don't know why I'm surprised to find myself rolling my eyes at Hewitt, but this was just an incredibly dumb thing for him to put out there at a time when we need to be thinking seriously about why we lost and what comes next.
