Whatever
So reported ABC's Jonathan Karl, from Washington. Bunning could have said, in the third person, that the elevator in question was the only elevator of which he could avail himself. But I think it is more likely that he told Karl that "this is a Senators-only elevator."
What is lamer than the professional writer who cannot write?
What is the purpose of this
What is the purpose of this post? Trying to detract from the fact that Senator Bunning is pretty much working up to cause a massive battle that will completely change the Senate works while objecting to every little thing that comes to the floor. I think Bunning has crossed the line of acceptable decorum in the Senate and deserves every bit of harassment he gets from the press right now.
What is its purpose? To
What is its purpose? To highlight the incompetent writing of supposed professional writers. I've never hid my SNOOT tendencies here. As to alternative motives: Why would I need to distract from a story when I'm under no obligation to post about it in the first place, Jim? If I had some intent to cover up what Bunning is up to—a nobler effort than Shelby's abuse, I should note—one might think that simply saying nothing would suffice. Literally dozens of things happen every day without attracting notice in these pages.
Clarification
That's by no means to say that we can't talk about whatever you'd like in the story. We can—digression in the comments is not only allowed but encouraged. But I always post about what strikes me as interesting in a story, regardless of what the byline thought the important part was.
OK, point taken. I apologize
OK, point taken. I apologize and retract my accusation. However, the issue of the post contentions may be unfair. With the way the byline is written up, I suspect this was actually ghost-posted, likely by an intern or some other staffer who is responsible for blog posting. Probably someone who is about to lose their job anyway from the sounds of the cuts about to happen at ABC News. ;)
