"I worked hard for that money!"

Submitted by Simon on Sat, 11/01/2008 - 12:47pm

Thanks for the bloglink love!

Thanks, my friend. I am glad you saw that (and hope you scrolled down or saw the earlier Ramirez strip). Missing you!

Failing you making an IRC chat channel on Tuesday, I'll be on Althouse during most of the night, to ring in the (hopefully) good news. :)

Now THAT is funny

That is really funny. 100% on the mark. Bad on anyone who supported public financing back in the day and has a blind spot for Obama on this issue.

The huge funding gap Obama has enjoyed troubles me every bit as much as the gaps the GOP has enjoyed in the past. I don't support public financing myself, but I am not willing to give up on the idea of trying to keep the communication resources of Presidential campaigns in the ballpark of even.

That leads me to a rather obvious prediction. Presuming Obama wins and the GOP loses vast ground in Congress, then the natural assumption is that the GOP has to do some soul-searching, or at least brainstorming about their approach for 2010 and 2012.

The prospects for new widespread agreement within the party on ideological approach? Well even if you don't think they're dim, you probably agree that the battles will take some time. If there is one area where agreement will be reached quickly, it will be in the area of financing. You can bet the GOP will be extremely determined not to be out-fundraised in 2010 and 2012.

Oh, and you can bet they'll run against the new congress. Expect congress to be a huge issue._________

Yeah that was funny. Honestly, Obama's flip on public financing

still bothers me, and I think that's the one typical politician move that you really cannot defend. Not a deal-breaker, but I do think he has gotten a subtle backlash over it, especially with his infomercial last week. The GOP can hardly play the victim, but...

Meanwhile.... At

Meanwhile....
At Poligazette, under a post linked to this one, Justin wrote that he feels certain that Obama really wouldn't object to giving 3% of his funds raised to the McCain campaign.

I know he was just making a rhetorical point about the degree of wealth spreading that Obama projects, but still...that claim had me ROFLMAO.

"Hello, John? Yes, hi, how are you doing? Yeah, I have noticed that I've done really well with the fundraising. Yes, you're right, I have also said that those who arent doing as well ought to have the same opportunities...OK, listen, I'm going to put David Axelrod on the line. Just let him know where to send the check."

cagey move

This would be a really smart move for Obama to make. On Wednesday.

He could announce it at his

He could announce it at his press conference.

If he had taken public

If he had taken public financing he would have had to quit collecting millions from his internet credit-card donation system, the one with all the security checks and safeguards removed, the one that lets anyone anywhere launder money into his campaign with no way to verify their elgibility to donate, or even their identity.
