The Man Who Would Be King...

Submitted by Tully on Tue, 10/31/2006 - 12:15pm

...says our troops are academic losers. That's right, the man who was the face of the Democratic party in the 2004 election thinks our soldiers are morons, and that no one with an education would enlist.

For those without broadband, he said:

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

Of course, he's wrong, but that's never slowed him down before.

McCain has demanded an apology. Kerry is trying to claim he really meant to insult President Bush's mental abilities instead of those of the American military, and issued this non-apology.

Navy Times article here. John Kerry, still supporting the troops!.

UPDATE: Glenn Reynolds weighs in: Democrats must be wondering what they were thinking to nominate him in 2004, and why he won't go away now.

UPDATE: THE TROOPS RESPOND!

Nice to see they're keeping a sense of humor, no?
[And since someone else with greater readership has already tagged 'em, my very very best to the men and women of the Desert Bulls. Drop us an email if we can send anything!]

UPDATE: The Anchoress has much much more, including catching the Internal Proletariat New York Times misquoting Kerry's actual remarks, using only the purportedly prepared text (which Kerry's office did not produce until well after the flap started, rendering it questionable) and not the actual quote.

[*--bonus points for nailing both source references!]
