Whatever
That's from Paul Berman, about Tariq Ramadan, in a must-read interview with Michael Totten, about his must-read book The Flight of the Intellectuals. They also discuss Bush Derangement Syndrome, Obama's strengths and weaknesses, and the lack of clarity of certain Western liberal intellectuals.
Thanks to Max for the hat tip.
Amazing isn't it?
Yep Raf, I think everyone here can relate to this post by Totten. And the following post by Michael on what a young Muslim American student said to Horowitz has become viral. The former has clearly led to the latter happening in our educational institutions. We are reaching a tipping point; the ideological cloud that Obama brought into office and the limp signals so far issued has contributed to this climate already made ripe by those "intellectuals" Berman speaks about. It is only just beginning for some dim eggs hatching. I see Chomsky it appears can't get his visa into Israel.
An example of the bleed over into contemporary politics would be today's comment by Politico that the administration's best hope on Iran rests on Iran's being more intransigent. Think about that....I can't really think of what progress we have made and it looks more and more like we're setting that table up for a Grand Bargain with one of the most dangerous regimes. This international climate of our being out played has given many closet radicals the hope that their time has come. Even some here in America. Just look at CNN's posting of Shahzad's email in which he talks about the Koran not seeking dialogue, South Park and the West's attack on Muslims.....
In the comment thread, I did mention Tully's PDS that precedes BDS and I admit that he had often said what Paul summarized about the Intellectual Left. The veil will eventually have to come off this administration and the political polarization here has so distorted the discourse, many smart people have gone completely batty....
Under this cloud the worst sorts of things creep in......
