As we were discussing in my earlier post, one of my main beefs with Joe the Plumber's new gig is the fact that we need solid coverage of this conflict, and JTP's celebrity amateur act just doesn't cut it in my book. I could be wrong, but I don't think so. As Pat points out in the comments, bad journalism by the MSM is no excuse for bad journalism by an amateur.
One guy who has proven himself over and over is Michael Totten, who is up for another award for best Mideast or Africa blog. He deserves it I think, but he's up against hysterical hack Juan Cole, who has apparently decided to try to win the award by telling filthy lies about Israel, and their war against Hamas. Totten schools him:
Southern Israel has been under indiscriminate rocket fire from Hamas for years. And Hamas’ stated goal, as Cole knows very well, is the total destruction of Israel. No government on earth would sit idly by while tens of thousands of its citizens live under constant rocket attack, and Cole knows that, too. He also knows that the Israel Defense Forces adheres to the laws of war, goes out of its way to avoid harming civilians, and even warns terrorist leaders themselves that their homes are on the target list.
Cole responds by attacking Totten and supporters of Israel in predictable fashion, by calling him a right-wing neo-con lunatic. Totten schools him again:
Cole is free to characterize me as some kind of right-wing Zionist lunatic all he wants. But he also knows very well that the American public and the U.S. Congress overwhelmingly back Israel’s war against Hamas. And if he thinks only neoconservatives, right-wingers in general, and right-Zionists in particular have my back in the voting, he’s wrong.
Exactly. Back him up, y'all.
ADDED: Not to keep piling on JTP, but besides Mike Totten, we may already have a voice on the Israeli side of things, from an actual Israeli. Good read.

Juan Cole is a hack.
Juan Cole is a hack. I mentioned him years ago at Centerfield and here at Stubborn Facts. Why? He claimed that the Kurds and the Sunnis would NEVER agree to fight AQ and advocated splitting up Iraq. Did he apologize when he was proven wrong? No.
First, Cole advocated Iraqi elections and then attacked the Bush administration for allowing the Shia to elect themselves into power. He never advocated sending massive numbers of troops and then attack Bush for not sending them. He blogs as though he was some supreme expert and NEVER admits when he gets things completely wrong. He was among the first to say Iraq was lost and then credits the success of the surge for all reasons EXCEPT US strategy. He would agree to the GRAND BARGIN with Iran in a second and despite his self-professed smarts, he spins the Middle East with little insight into the Shia-Sunni connection or the inevitable risks his thinking would bring should it find sympathy in the Obama WH. I group Cole in the "intellectual" Left world on the internet. I use intellectual in a sarcastic sense. There is little intellect in views without correction, reflection or simple logic based on known facts.
Again Cole was among the first to call Israel’s attack on Syrian nuclear site a phony operation to test Syrian defense systems. His prescriptions for Lebanon, Gaza, Iran, Iraq and even Pakistan represent thoughts from La La Land.
Thanks for keeping his feet to the fire Raf......
Joe the plumber could do a better job.
Maybe Coles should start dating Rosie. They are both great examples of "intellectuals".
Also, here is the guy Carter talked to in Syria. Will Obama admit the Iranian-Hamas connection? Forget Cole, he is a propagandist for these guys.
Thank Mike Totten moreso than me, Max.
We all do our part, but he's in the thick of things. Cole has been wrong on basically every prediction he's made.
Yep, perhaps there is some
Yep, perhaps there is some excellence in being wrong "everytime". I usually see what Coles says and take the other view...LOL.
Damn, internet has made experts of us all...
Thank you Totten for standing your ground for free.
We may not always agree, but
We may not always agree, but here we exactly the same.
