Taking candy from babies?

Submitted by Pat on Fri, 07/28/2006 - 10:40am

Why would any sane person compare her political feelings to the crying of a toddler whose candy has been taken? I fear this sheds more light on BDS and CPD™ than photographer Jill Greenberg intended.

Greenberg is in the news for taking candy from babies. With parents present, she intentionally made toddlers cry by taking their lollipops, a standard technique in the movies and on TV. She then photographed them. This has incensed several bloggers, who consider it "child abuse", including Thomas Hawk and Jeremiah McNichols. Today, Michelle Malkin weighs in with her own outrage at making children cry for art. Note that McNichol shares Greenberg's political distaste for the Bush Administration, but finds her methods repulsive.

What fascinates me is the political point which Greenberg is making with her pictures:

It [the crying of the 2 year olds] reminded me of helplessness and anger I feel about our current political and social situation.

Got that? I agree. The people who wail and scream that the country is going to hell in a handbasket, that Bush is evil, the Michael Moores and Howard Deans, the people in therapy because their party lost a political election, these people are all acting like 2 year olds. Greenberg should reflect on her unwitting self-revelation.
