One of several issues which led me to help start Stubborn Facts was a desire to reprint the Danish cartoons a couple of years ago. Management at Centerfield at the time preferred that I not use that site to do so, and I agreed, posting this accusation against the media, instead. Their site, their rules, but I wanted the freedom to decide for myself what to post. Now I can.
Last week, 5 jihadists were arrested for plotting to murder one of the cartoonists. Michelle Malkin was one of the strongest blogosphere voices standing up for the right to freedom of expression in the Danish cartoon matter, organizing a blogburst to republish the cartoons, which was joined by 192 blogs. Today, Malkin is calling upon all bloggers to again stand in sammenhold, solidarity, with the threatened Dutch cartoonist, by reprinting one of the cartoons.
I am proud to stand in defiance of those who would use violence to stop the free expression of ideas, anywhere in the world. Those who would use violence, threaten violence, or condone violence in response to a drawing are backwards savages. Certainly not all Muslims support such violence, and some may be offended by the drawing, just as many Christians are routinely offended by rude artwork depicting Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and other religious figures. But very few Christians respond with violence to such offenses, while there appear to be a large number of Muslims willing to riot and otherwise do violence to those who merely give them offense. To the Muslims who are offended, I say stand up for freedom of expression. Even if you don't like my speech, the speech of the Danish cartoonists, stand up for our right to express even opinions you dislike and find offensive. Publishing this cartoon has nothing to do with trying to offend Muslims and everything to do with preserving our most important freedoms.

Agreed. I do too.In fact, I want a t-shirt of this cartoon, maybe with the caption "ce n'est pas Muhammed."
And I'd even go further. I stand in defiance of folks who try to stop free expression by other means as well. It has come to my attention as of just last night that hackers succeeded in vandalizing a myspace site that serves as a forum for atheists and agnostics. Subsequent to the vandalism, myspace has for the 2nd time simply REMOVED the entire forum as resource for over 35,000 members.
< a href="http://www.cleveland.com/living/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/living-0/1201772086310820.xml&coll=2">This was reported 2 weeks ago in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and much to my dismay was not regarded as newsworthy enough to be picked up nationwide.
That makes the incident and its subsequent lack of report a disgrace for the"jesus is love" hackers who hacked, the my space folks who decided to punish the victims, and the media who didn't give this story the focus it deserved.
The more you disagree with someone, the more you need to respect their right to free speech. I have trouble respecting folks who don't get this.

Very bad...
Brian, I hadn't heard of that Myspace incident. I agree, reprehensible (though naturally less so than attempted assasination).
Love the "ce n'est pas Muhammed" caption...

Silly me, all this time I was thinking that offending muslims was a reason not to invite them to dinner parties. :-)

That too.
That too. Especially if you plan on having a bacon and rib buffet.

Still waiting for my bacon salt to get delivered from Amazon...
I wonder what the mullahs' policy would be on a product like this, which tastes like bacon, but is fact vegan and bacon free. Would they ban it as a "depiction of bacon" and issue a jihad against the infidel seasoning?

Witchcraft in the 21 century
I don't know how much anyone here follows what is going on in Europe. English Press is furious that a top Anglican religious figure has suggested Sharia laws to some vague extent should be incorporated into English law. There has also been talk of English areas that are off-limits to non-Musims. Without going into a whole list of outrages, let me post this. The Saudis are back at it again.
Now among many things that Senator Obama refuses to address, I wonder why "human rights", which he trumpeted as even more important than national security during a national debate, remains such a silent issue? He did not say anything about children and gays being executed in the country he wants to "talk" to (Iran). He said nothing about a rape victim that was going to be further abused. He says little on Darfur, Kenya or even Somalia.
And remember all those anti-war folks who think Bush is Hitler? Well here is their icon at it again defending Islamists.
Public opinion in Europe is getting quite bothered by the Left's attempt to defend pro-jihad material and web sites reaching deeply into European populations. They are getting quite concerned about the new reports of carbon-based P-2 high speed centrifuges Iran is now making enriched gas with. My point is that Mr. Wonk Obama has said nothing about any of these serious issues as he tries to dance his way to the White House while not wishing to upset his base. It is this silence that will be the undoing of either Obama or our efforts to contain a growing and more dangerous threat should he become President. No Brian, not an idiot dove, just a pandering and weak leader at such an important time. Finally uncovering this media hidden truth is McCain's central task in debating Obama. This is why our allies prefered Hillary and our adversaries do not want McCain. Funny why this is so, yes?
