Whatever
From Mitt Romney? How about that:
He should forget entirely about reelection and focus solely on helping the nation at a critical time. He should dismiss the people who helped him win the election and bring in people who are above politics and above party. He should surround himself with statesmen and economists, businesspeople and leaders. In some ways it would be beneficial if our presidency consisted of only one term. That way the President would think about his legacy and the future of the country rather than reelection and partisanship....
Yeah, that's pretty good advice. It's from Mitt Romney, but it's still good advice. I'm no Romney fan, and there's a definite credibility gap here, but it's still worth listening to, unlikely source notwithstanding.

It would seem to me that in
It would seem to me that in the current climate of public disgust with our political class, that this would end up being the best reelection strategy anyway- particularly if it's well executed and he surrounds himself with high quality advisors and then makes good decisions based on their advice. If he does this and begins making some effective changes to reverse the course of the economic meltdown and stabilize foreign relations hotspots, and he's seen as doing this by rising above politics and relying on true policy experts, then he'll have earned his rock star status.
I can't say that I'm very confident that it'll happen that way, but in theory it makes sense to me and I hope that Obama sees that as well.
